Very clever. What does it mean?

Well, we are just having fun with UNIX humor, right? But actually this also serves to illustrate how I look at lots of things. As I read the cartoon you posted I began to test its logic. In my mind I inserted various phrases to see if the argument held up. Mind you I was not testing the UNIX commands which by their nature are perfect; weather the desired output is flawed or not it does exactly what you tell it too. I became amused by my simple exercise and decided to share. I do tend to evaluate lots of things this way, particularly social situations. For example I have in the past encountered women at work who are fond of saying something along the lines of “this is so screwed up a man must have designed it”. We all laughed, It was funny in the context of the situation; However if you change that sentence and have a man at work say “this is so screwed up a woman must have designed it” prepare yourself to be fired. Same logical statement, very different results. People do not react like UNIX commands, and for a logical guy this is a lesson I have to remind myself of every day.

So I guess my reply to your cartoon is a reference to how I test social situations every day. And I usually do it in a way that amuses me, although I almost never share it with others. Very often you have to take a test to the extreme edges in order to force a result that proves or disproves the hypothesis. I thank you for indulging my sophomoric post, I was giggling like a 10 year old as I hit reply. The rest of this is crap I made up after you asked me “what does it mean?”

Thanks for asking. :-)

Gleaned from my July 11th post: "I always get tired of hearing how men have kept women down. We invented disposable diapers only when we began changing them, we invented the highly uncomfortable bra to highlight the bosom. Men invented pantyhose, and men invented the Epilady. I get tired of these accusations, and though it has taken me 15-years and my entire family fortune, I now have my stock answer: THERE SHOULD BE MORE WOMEN ENGINEERS!"

Yes, I myself did something which made me giggle like a schoolgirl today. Something which seemed to provide self-validatiion as well, cementing in my mind that I'm still the funniest person I know. You see, this young woman who has recently broken up with her boyfriend posted today in her journal about a song at church she could really identify with, and which gave her chills:

"He supplies strength for the weak....He's available for the tempted and the tried....He sympathizes and He saves....He strengthens and sustains....He guards and He guides....He heals the sick....He cleanses lepers....He forgives sinners....

I responded with the lyrics to a Cake song:

He's going the distance...He's going for speed...She's all alone, all alone, all alone in a time of need...Because he's racing and pacing and plotting the course...He's fighting and biting and riding on his horse...He's going the distance

No trophies, no flowers, no flashbulbs, no lime...He's haunted by something he cannot define...Bowel shaking earthquakes of doubt and remorse...Assail him and bail him with monster truck force

I was laughing like a retard the first time I read it out loud. Needless to say, there's your</> validation, sir.

I love it! Although, side be side here it is apparent to me your sense of humor is a bit more obtuse than mine, some may even say more sophisticated. It is fun to stretch and challenge what others hold as truths, except maybe when it is us being challenged…
