At the point it was time to leave work, the Data Center lost power. A crack of lighting over a nearby sub-station dropped house power. We were here only an additional hour. Then another of our facilities had a direct lighting hit to a building-wide chiller - dropping HVAC in that server room. Storms never end, it seems...
After work I joined a co-worker and his wife for dinner and a movie. He was going to grill, but the rain prevented that. So they were going to order pizza, but the phone lines were down. So he was going to Air Card in his order, but the Sprint cell tower was also affected by the storm.
I'm no longer going to support my negative view of Blue-Ray. We watched Pirates of the Caribbean II: Dead Man's Chest in the theater room on the LCD projector via a PS3...it was fantastic. The picture was clear, bright, and the 7.1 surround sounded great - I so enjoyed listening to the score throughout the show, having seen the movie some months before I got the soundtrack and not since. It was a magnificent night. Until the power went out.
We sat in candle light visiting until midnight, eventually rifling through his geek collection, starting with an EMC bumper sticker accolading Data Domain's near-line storage that the common man wouldn't understand, 'Tape Sucks, Let's Move On' (why would you advertise that on a car?) and ending with what I personally found the most humorous, a wind-up walking SGI Origin 200 server:
I left home with a bag of goodies from his wife and stopped at Wal-Mart at midnight for cat food. Daisy's now healed, but she hasn't touched her cat food in a week - I can feel her bones. She's just ended her 10-day run of antibiotics, so I'm guessing that has something to do with it. To combat this, I got her a can of Fancy Feast Elegant Medley's "Wild Salmon & Whipped Egg Soufle with Garden Greens" (she only eats IAMS dry normally). Verdict? That did the trick! She ate the ENTIRE thing in one sitting. I got several cans, so I'll feed it to her again tonight. I need to get her strength back up before I depart to Wichita tomorrow for a weekend trip.
