Behold - the telling of Star Wars from someone who's never *actually* seen it - and as you will soon be able to deduce, information gathered from over thirty-years of culture means almost nothing...

3:42 video

(Snatched from http://www.livejournal.com/random.bml)

The first 10 people to respond to this post will get something made by me! My choice. For you. (It will likely be an avatar)

This offer does have some restrictions and limitations:

  1. I make no guarantees that you will like what I make!

  2. What I create will be just for you.

  3. It'll be done this year. (Likely by next post)

  4. You have no clue what it's going to be. (But it will likely be an avatar, I like making avatars)

The catch? Oh, the catch is that you should put this in your journal as well. We all can make stuff! (Usually, the catch is that you must put it in your journal. I say, if you want to, great. If you don't want to, that's cool, too.) <-- Text courtesy jane_craven

Today I fix sftp on the Solaris boxes and attempt to dissuade a client who wants me to install ftps on an HP/UX box. sftp = ftp over ssh; ftps = ftp over ssl *gah* (which, among other things, will likely fail due to firewall restrictions on ftp's use of random ports).

May the Force be with you!

I'm the first to comment! Woo hoo!

Since I am not so great at making avatars, it is unlikely that i will post this meme on my journal, but feel free to make one for me if you so choose.

Avatar creation is my gift of choice. One girl offered to make jewelry, another cookies. One person said they might knit something and mail it. And while you don't have to repost, if you did, I can see you creating playlists for people. Personalized playlists based on your immense musical knowledge and arsenal.

I'll post your new avatar here later this evening ;) Thanks for playing!

Pick me! I want one of your awesome icons! Even though I still have a DOUBLE YAY one that needs uploading. Ahem.

(Do you think I could use this meme as a sneaky way of making new icons for people on my f-list who have ones that could use some prettifying?)
ehowton at 2009-01-21 13:24 (UTC) (Link)
Perhaps the one I make this time will be more...appropriate?

...making new icons for people on my f-list who have ones that could use some prettifying?
See, this is why you excel. Sneaky AND brilliant. You could really take advantage of that by adding the following line for the timid or clueless: "Additionally, the following totally indiscriminate people from my fl chosen from a super-secret online random lj-user generator will *also* receive shiny new avatars!" heh

if 7 were an adequate number to describe cat, then we would all be a platypus. And everyone know's that platypus's are nature's D students.

In my darkest "humble opinion" that video doesn't have enough Vader time. Of course I'm biased and feel that way about all of the movies. HAHA! ';)
Stupid Jar Jar.

Her laugh is the cutest though.

I loved the "action" shots of Lando, and the 'Hans' discourse.

You know I would have commented on a Star Wars post anyway, right? right?!

That was pretty good. She knew everybody that died, and through in an extra death too. Nice. I'm going to ask the Mrs. what she thinks the storyline is too. This should be fun.

"...or whatever." <-- Because *actual* events are not important!
mr_dowg at 2009-01-21 16:10 (UTC) (Link)
That telling of the Star Wars Trilogy was just priceless......I can definitely see Glodowg telling it like that....except I don't think she would even know that much information to include in it! lol
ehowton at 2009-01-21 16:23 (UTC) (Link)
Events occur around you, for three decades - global events which shape the world around you; the one in which you interact. And not just any three decades of your life, but formative years. Years which mold what you are and what you become - defining years. THIRTY YEARS of absorbing information peripherally and walking amongst an earth which has been changed with knowledge demands that she knows more than she's admitting to.

And the why is anyone's guess.

Someone on national tv yesterday credited their son with that line!!!

I was going to respond quickly in order to be granted a magical avatar, but since I already have my gift of avatar-greatness, i did not rush. This is actually my first comment using it, and i am so proud!
I will now become silent so that you may all marvel at the work that is Howton!
I said MARVEL...!
ehowton at 2009-01-21 19:25 (UTC) (Link)
Its magnificent. And I saw you marvel.

I love Star Wars and it makes me cry to know that there are people in this world that hasn't see it yet. Although this clip is humorous. BTW I was going to make an Star Wars avatar but I am at work and I would have to wait till I go home to do it. :(
ehowton at 2009-01-21 19:26 (UTC) (Link)
Don't cry. Without diversity, we'd have no one to poke fun at.
codekitten at 2009-01-21 19:42 (UTC) (Link)
am i too late?
ehowton at 2009-01-21 19:53 (UTC) (Link)
No. But even if you were you know I'd make an exception. ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU USE THOSE AVATARS OF YOURS AGAINST ME! "10" was never a hard & fast rule...
catttitude at 2009-01-21 21:51 (UTC) (Link)
To funny, you have Glo pegged, but I think we will keep her.
ehowton at 2009-01-21 22:27 (UTC) (Link)
Maybe mr_dowg will make her watch Tropic Thunder?

I'm actually impressed with how much she did know, certainly more than some of the folks I've encountered. However, they did tend to know that Darth Vader was Luke's father, which she managed to leave out (maybe just forgot while reciting?).
ehowton at 2009-01-21 22:32 (UTC) (Link)
My mother-in-law was staying with us for the birth of our first child in 2000 and decided to watch all the movies because she had never seen them. I got home one evening, and with a crazed look in her eyes she grabbed me and hissed, DID YOU KNOW DARTH VADER WAS LUKE'S FATHER!?!?!

The bar planet.

The brown muppets.

Too funny.

I appreciate that there is a Centurion on Endor. :D
