"Goth" means different things to different people, both as a derivative of the worth "gothic" and the connotations which follow either word - basically the same kinda dumb arguments which go into defining any "subculture," For the purposes of this album I sought slightly haunting versions of traditional arrangements (which were, either by design or in the case of the freaking von Trapp Children! those which simply unfolded that way unwittingly) or original compositions which denoted a slightly darker Christmas experience. But not exclusively. In some cases even non-holiday themed songs which hopefully don't sound too out of place within the arrangement. In short, standard fare.

This does not explain, nor excuse the R2D2 & C3P0 vs. The Carpenters track I mixed together at zero-drunk-thirty one morning.

That aside, I trust you'll enjoy it. Even the 24-hour satellite Christmas channels don't play stuff this good, and surely it will be the only Christmas album I'll require, as its chock full of some of my personal favorites. I grew up on the Ray Conniff Singers, for example - They're so goth. I was also thrilled to get Hermann's "Sleigh Ride" off Chiller and into a more...appropriate setting, that being, A Touch of Goth XMAS.

May the Force be with you.

1 - Credit where credit is due
2 - I did run across a nearly equally haunting one by Sixpence None the Richer
3 - That's a Glass Armonica
4 - My first experience with the new conductor of the Berlin Philharmonic; ZOMG!
5 - Thanks to BSX

Hmmm. And I was just happy with my new Big Bad Voodoo Daddy mix. :-) Not Christmas though.

My first ever Christmas CD was given to me by my dad ten years ago - The Ray Conniff Singers. I got a late start to be sure, but I'm not going to let that stop me from forcibly shoving festivity down everyone's throat.

"forcibly shoving festivity down everyone's throat."

It is the Christian way.

LOL! :-)

I've got Big Bad Voodoo Daddy doing "Mr. Heatmiser" on a Christmas compilation. Very cool. :-)

I haven't had the pleasure of hearing Mr. Heatmiser yet. But if it's done as well as everything else, I'm sure it's fantastic.

It is very true to the original but includes both "Mr. Heatmiser" and "Mr. Snowmiser." My wife and I picked up a Christmas compilation at Bath & Body Works a few years ago. I pull it out every year. I think "Mr. Heatmiser" is my favorite track, but I also like Jimmy Eat World's version of the Wham! song "Last Christmas." (Much better than Wham!)

You should check our Excelsis: A Dark Noel from Projekt Records. I think they have several volumes now. Projekt is a darkwave / gothic record label. I've got several of their releases. Very ambient and moody stuff.

I've got Sixpence None The Richer doing "You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch." Also very cool, but in a different way.

Your council has been sorely missed!

I've been reading ... I just haven't had much to say. Music is a topic on which I can always comment.

I am humbled by your missing my council.

As I was listening to it on the drive in this morning, it struck me that were there such a thing, it really should've been named, "Geek Goth."

I finally listened to this tonight. I LOVE it. It helped lessen my bah humbug feelings today.

:D It definitely could be Geek Goth!
