According to Wikipedia, the Soviet Union cleaned out the Carl Zeiss factory in Germany after World War II and started producing an identical copy of their famous Tessar lens, which is what we have here - direct from Moscow (I have the stamps to prove it) - the 1957 Krasnogorskiy Mechanicheskiy Zavod (KMZ) Industar-50.
This "pancake" lens is, by a wide margin, the smallest lens in my possession. Yet, as you will be able to tell from the magnificent pictures under the cut, rivals my best...at least in color and contrast. The depth of field is unimpressive, but we'll tackle that in my next camera-tagged post.
